The deadline is also getting tight for the thirty-eighth annual Appalachian Studies conference. Proposals need to be submitted between September1 and October 17, 2014. The conference is set for March 27-29, 2015 at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee.
The theme is “Many Mountains, Many Musics” and organizers say it should challenge participants “to view Appalachia from a fresh perspective and discover its emergence as a creative, dynamic force.”
U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander will be the keynote speaker. His topic: “Appalachia in the 21st Century.” A panel will discuss “Opportunity & Enterprise in Appalachia.” Also scheduled is a concert by Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. Organizers say “this Many Musics performance will embody the best of Appalachia.”
